TEAMWORK / TACTICS
Robo Soccer
Fixtures, standings and knockout finals.
Build a robot that can move the ball, defend and score. Bring teamwork and tactics to group matches and knockout rounds.

The challenge
Build your player. Bring your game.
Design a robot that can approach the ball, defend space and create scoring opportunities. Match play adds an exciting layer of tactics to engineering: manoeuvrability, ball control and teamwork can matter just as much as motor power.
Your mission
Play scheduled fixtures on the designated miniature football arena.
Move the ball and score while observing contact and safety rules.
Adapt your tactics for group matches and any knockout rounds.

Rules & scoring
Document baseline: two 2-minute halves, with a 1-minute half-time break.
How the score determines ranking
Goals determine the match outcome. Group league points = 3 × wins + 1 × draws + 0 × losses. Group tie-break order and knockout draw resolution are awaiting the final rulebook.
| Criterion | Calculation / priority |
|---|---|
| Win | 3 league points per match won. |
| Draw | 1 league point per drawn match. |
| Loss | 0 league points per match lost. |
| Equal group points / knockout draw | Tie-break, extra-time or penalty-challenge procedure is awaiting the final rulebook. |
Example: 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss = (2 × 3) + (1 × 1) + (1 × 0) = 7 league points. These are match points, not percentage score weightages.
During your run or match
- Group fixtures are followed by knockout matches where feasible; advancement details will be published.
- Restart from the centre after a goal; use the designated boundary/out-of-play restart.
- Normal robot contact is expected, but ramming, pinning and unsafe mechanisms are penalised.
- Drivers stay in the designated technical box and enter the field only on the referee’s signal.
- Use wireless control only as permitted for this event.
Awaiting the final rulebook
The supplied guidance does not define percentage score weightages or a complete weighted-score formula. No percentage weights have been assigned.
- Field and goal dimensions, ball specifications and robots per side
- Possession limits, foul penalties and restart details
- Group tie-break order and advancement criteria
- Extra-time / penalty-challenge procedure for knockout draws
Prepare for your best run
- Practise approaching, guiding and releasing the ball accurately.
- Test quick turns, defence and recovery after losing possession.
- Agree clear operator roles and rehearse your match strategy.
- Check permitted ball-handling mechanisms and wireless channels.
Before you compete
This page includes the 2027 document baseline. Missing score values, exact penalties and final arena specifications are awaiting the final rulebook. Your robot must pass technical inspection before it enters the arena.
