SPEED / CONTROL
Robo Race
Driver-controlled racing through timed qualifiers.
Engineer for speed and control. Take on individual timed qualifiers and race for a place in the final.

The challenge
Engineer for the finish. Drive with purpose.
Bring speed, traction and control together in a race-ready robot. Compete through qualifying heats and progress toward the final. The most effective build is one your team can control consistently across the full course, even when the pressure rises.
Your mission
Start from the assigned position when the official signal is given.
Complete the permitted course and checkpoints without shortcuts.
Record a valid finish and earn progression through the published race format.

Rules & scoring
Individual timed qualification runs are the document baseline. Run limits and later rounds are awaiting the final rulebook.
How the score determines ranking
The fastest valid course completion after applying the published penalties ranks highest. The penalty calculation method is awaiting the final rulebook.
| Criterion | Calculation / priority |
|---|---|
| Valid course completion | Complete the permitted route and checkpoints; validity conditions are awaiting the final rulebook. |
| Elapsed time | Faster valid completion is better. |
| Course penalties | Missed gates, obstacle bypass, hand reset and course departure are recorded separately; numerical values and how they affect time are awaiting the final rulebook. |
During your run or match
- Only the designated driver, officials and authorised marshals enter the active race zone.
- Do not bypass obstacles or miss required gates.
- If the robot stalls, the clock continues to the run limit unless the published rule permits a reset.
- A robot leaving the safe course boundary or creating a hazard is stopped.
- Stay in the designated driver position; field entry requires referee permission.
Awaiting the final rulebook
The supplied guidance does not define percentage score weightages or a complete weighted-score formula. No percentage weights have been assigned.
- Run limit, number of qualifying attempts and best-run selection
- Penalty amounts and whether they adjust time or use another method
- Reset allowance, course dimensions and checkpoint definitions
- Qualification cutoffs, final format and tie-break procedure
Prepare for your best run
- Tune acceleration, braking and turning for repeatable control.
- Test tyres and weight distribution on the likely arena surface.
- Practise starts and full-course runs rather than only straight-line speed.
- Check permitted radio settings for this driver-controlled event.
Before you compete
This page includes the 2027 document baseline. Missing score values, exact penalties and final arena specifications are awaiting the final rulebook. Your robot must pass technical inspection before it enters the arena.
